Staying in

This week has been slow but surprisingly draining on different levels. I am happy however that I was able to cozy up my current nest a bit more with..

Floral pillows found, bought and gifted.

Organizing my favourite cups, bowls and plates in a cupboard all to myself.

Setting up this found sewing machine (have yet to try it out).

Finally having a tv in MY room and being able to watch movies in dvd or vcr mode while munching on snacks.

Getting that glittery bow that's been on my mind for the last little bit. Not necessary but fun :)

A little bit crazy, a lot belated

So much catching up to do! Many of these photos are from a few months ago. To begin, I bought a blouse pattern that I had intended to make out of a black and large white polka dots fabric we have in the shop. I haven't gotten to it yet but I want to very soon! Next I finally got myself some embroidery scissors which are good for trimming small threads. I could have bought one from the ones we carry at the shop but how could I resist bunny scissors!? Another purchase I made was of quite possibly the cutest pencil case in history. The illustrations are so well done and SO adorable, again, resistance was futile. I also bought quite a few fabrics at fabricville, one of which has eyes that glow in the dark! I've since sewn it into a reversible bag but still have to sew on a button, a button loop and finish it off with a bit of top stitching.

My next set of belated photos are from window gazing at a shop I've admired for a while now, it's called Surface Jalouse and the furniture they carry is so striking and bold. I hope to own a few of their pieces in my future dwelling some day.

Lastly, I did something I've always wanted to do ever since I was a teen but for some reason never was adventurous enough. I bleached my hair! My reason for not going all the way to my roots was because I worry about damaging the hair follicle. I like the effect however and look forward to making my other dream come true, dying it pink!

I leave you with a bit of a catchy 80s pop tune for some finger snapping while you browse the nets. Check out that vacant stare:

First day of classes

As of yesterday, I am officially back at school! A few months ago I made the decision to return so that I could benefit from 39 credits worth of studio art classes. It seemed like a bargain deal for a second shot at enjoying school life, access to lovely resources and working space. I'm only part-time this year, but I can already tell it is having an effect on my current job hunting status. Not two weeks ago, I almost got a full-time position that would have worked perfectly with the one class I'm taking (and it was in my field), but in the end I wasn't the chosen candidate. Since then I've been a bit down thinking how in the hell am I going to find something as great as that? The prospect of having to go back to part-time work despite so many years of continuing education has really put me in a sad state. Seeing others flourish around me made me think I've wasted so much time, but it's the path I've chosen and regretting my decisions would be the real waste.

For my first day of class, I decided to show my style a bit as opposed to my previous years of fitness pants, corduroy and bright coloured sweaters. I do enjoy fashion, but I never really allowed myself to delve into it thinking I couldn't possibly because of this or that or twenty other reasons I made up. If I learned anything this summer, it was to stop listening to that little voice inside of me that keeps saying "you can't, you're not good enough." I won't dwell on the past, and I won't scare myself to death for the future, I will enjoy the moment that is happening now and eat 4 inch wide cookies while wearing glitter mascara if I have the luxury and the pleasure to do so.

Also, I will especially not forget to listen to music and create, which to me are as important as water and air. Here is what I've been enjoying lately. Her name is Katy B , and thus far I have about 4 of her songs on repeat!

Ugh..

Evans dot co dot uk, has been really grinding my gears. It turns out that it is quite difficult to cancel a return request. I decided too quickly to request a return for the shoes I purchased and so only realized that same night as I was dozing off, that I probably would have to pay for the postage. Damn! They need the item to arrive within 14 days of delivery, and for me to make that happen, I will have to spend at least 40$ (probably more due to the size/weight of the box) in order to get 28$ back, and that's IF they receive it. They are also asking that it has a tracking # and the price freaking doubles if I add that! But that isn't all.. I have a mysterious 40$ missing from my bank account from around the same time as the initial transaction. Because for some idiotic reason, paypal decided it would try to access my bank to pay for the evans purchase when I was under the comprehension that it would take it from my credit card, which it did, only because there wasn't enough in the bank. What's more, I can't remove my bank info from paypal because there is a pending transaction (the return that refuses to be cancelled!). UGH. I am trying to deal with this, and am hoping dearly that I won't have to spend/lose money that was so hard-earned.

So what do I do? I go shopping at Mouliné and eat a nénuphar at Première Moisson. (which was lovely because of the amazing Nicole of course:)

Also bought a festive nail polish in light of my birthday coming up this Monday and once again, I've not made any plans to celebrate it

so cute, but why must you shed so much!?

Fantastic thrifting

As I had previously mentioned, here are the other thrift goods I bought in the last 2-3 days. I've been incredibly lucky with my finds. I found 2 gorgeous teacups, a beautiful handcut papercraft of a kitty, green themed dish-ware, a cute mini metal fish mold, some weird upside down short cup thing with gorgeous illustrations and an illustrated book of the history of photo cameras. Now that isn't actually everything, just the highlights :) I seem to be shopping with living in my own apartment in mind... I've been collecting cups/plates/dishes for a little while all within the same feel but totally mismatched, which I am loving!

I have no clue as to what this is... the drawings blew my mind and despite not knowing what to use this for, I bought it anyway!

Cloud, Metallic, Lacey Lilac, Plum Seduction and Black

It seems that I have subconsciously purchased all of the colours of this fabric in nailpolishes this week in the hopes of allowing myself some happiness. The pen is really cool, but I think it is more of a water based nail lacquer as it rubs off really easily, it would be best to add a clear layer on top. The Plum Seduction is just divine and proves once again to be MY colour.. along with red. I almost bought blue. Why does colouring my nails make me feel better???

Dollarama mania

Lets start at the beginning.. many years ago, at the tender age of 7, I discovered the dollar store.. a place where I could actually afford to buy things, because everything... was a dollar! And my weekly allowance was 2.50 (twas only for a short while, but I felt very independent bc of it!) I used to buy random chocolates, small gifts for family and party favour rings to "marry" some of my friends at school (cheeky). I remember declaring to myself at that age that I would buy everything I ever needed from the dollar store, bc it had EVERYTHING. Of course my opinion has slightly changed due to ethical reasons, and questions of waste... I'm not too entirely sure if people are being paid well to design, manufacture and pack the products we buy from the dollar store, or if they use hamful materials.. I do know that I have cut my purchasing to a minimum, but every now and then, I will pop by for a bit of nostalgia, craft and 1.25-1.50-2.00 goodness.

A super useful-cute elephant phone stand!

Something I wish the dollarstore had when I was younger, this is nuts!

squeeeeal....

And lastly, A set of impressively illustrated stickers after my own heart.. I wish there was a name to the person/s who did this!
