Homemade scrapbooking paper tape! DIY!

I am so stoked about this mini DIY project. While browsing through the blogs that I follow on my blogger dashboard I noticed one that caught my eye : DIY Custom Patterned Paper Tape by Aunt Peaches. Such an inexpensive and innovative way to create your own tape (or stickers!!). I didn't expect to have a go at this tutorial so quickly but today when I went to the dollarstore and saw some double sided tape, I had a little EUREKA moment and realized this is totally do-able. And boy is it ever. I have been keeping the cut-offs of the scrapbooking papers I use for my bookmaking knowing that one day I will find a use for them and this is it!

It is so easy..

step 1. stick double sided tape onto the back of a patterned paper.

step 2. cut off the end of the double sided tape to the length of the paper.

step 3. rub the backside of the paper with a bone filer or your fingers to make sure the tape adheres properly.

step 4. cut strips, following the edges of the tape.

step 5. Voila! Pretty paper tape! Now just cut the desired length for your projects!

First Etsy sale and first Etsy purchase!

This is a HUGE deal for me. I feel so independent being able to purchase an item online and have it delivered to my door. That is a crazy notion to me and was such an alien concept, until I was (let's say) forced to acquire a credit card (prepaid mind you, and I am digging it) and have an Etsy presence. Now I can say I have received a payment for a purchased item I am about to ship tomorrow to the UK and just today I received a package from Australian artist and illustrator Mel Stringer (girliepains.etsy.com) of a zine I bought from her Etsy. I can't believe it! This is way cool. Also, she included a small print and the tiniest tooth. For a moment I thought it was real!!

Celery and almond soup

What an unlikely pair, right? I had some celery I wanted to use up and searched "easy celery recipe" like I did for cabbage last time. Then I thought my celery was rotten, but in fact it wasn't and then my uncle and I used it to make a sauce for the gnocchis he was showing me how to make :P So before yesterday I bought more celery specifically for this recipe. The combination seemed strange but I was eager to try as it looked reeeeeally simple. And it turned out to be so. I learnt a few lessons and maybe slightly burnt myself, but overall, this is a soup I will surely make again, it was very flavourful, satisfying, creamy and dreamy. And no weird aftertaste, yay!

I know I have been posting almost exclusively about food, but I am catching up on quite a lot of bookmaking that I will be adding to the shop. Hopefully I can start getting some sales!

Almost forgot about dessert! This is a no butter cupcake (applesauce instead) next time I'll go half butter and half applesauce, it's good, but it could be fluffier.

Chocolates and fortunes

Ah.. such successes! It feels good when SOME things go well. Life on the other hand can deal you lots of drama, but chocolate (especially homemade) can make it all go away for a temporary while. Behold my creations! Through a bit of researching online I figured out how to make chocolates using ice trays as molds. I'm sure there is a thorough tutorial on instructables (though I didn't think of checking there! dang!), but I would gladly share how I made them when I do so again, they are incredibly easy. We (my aunt and younger cousin) filled our chocolates with nutella and almonds. So simple, so delicious. I was even surprised myself! My aunt and uncle were still raving about how good they were even 3-4 days later.

Since Valentines I have been dabbling in so much sweets-making, it is undeniable that the lack of sunshine is getting to me and I am seeking seratonin where ever I can get my hands on it! These fortune cookies definitely helped cure some blues, following Annie's Eats recipe, I was actually able to successfully make some. Never in my life would I have thought I'd be making these, but there I was burning my thumbs and eating them up gleefully ~_~.
